PostSubject: External Had Drives   Fri 30 Jul 2010, 3:44 pm

I'm looking for an easy to use external hard drive. My parents want one,
and they aren't the most computer friendly people in the world. I need
something that's easy to use, that comes at a fair price. I don't need
more than 500GB.

Help is appreciated!

To be honest, external hard drives these days are all much of a muchness. My only advice really would be to make sure it's USB powered rather than mains powered, because USB powered ones are much smaller and you don't have to schlep a mains lead around with you. Apart from that, just go with whichever one is cheapest/prettiest/portablest.

I have a Western Digital 500 GB USB External Hard Drive that works very well. I'd definitely recommend it. Here is a link - http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Essential-External-WDH1U5000N/dp/B000XRK3LG

This is the one I have, and it's been pretty good to me so far. I've had it for quite sometime too!

Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus 1TB 3.5'' USB 2.0

This hard drive is loaded with a memory capacity of one terabyte. You can use a USB or a firewire 400 cable to connect it to the PC. It also includes an easy-to-use interface which can be used for file management, security, backup functions, and data encryption. It allows a user to synchronize data between two or more PCs on the same OS. The company generally gives a five-year warranty on this product. It is normally available for about $120.
